Risks and challenges of the transition to green energy: Role of stakeholders

The policy brief highlights the key issues involved in developing countries’ transition to green energy, particularly in Africa. Drawing from examples in selected countries, the note discusses the current state of energy supply and explores the variations in access rates across different countries in Africa. The brief also highlights some of the challenges in Africa’s current landscape including disjointed regional financing structures for obtaining funds to undertake projects in green energy. It concludes by probing the potential roles of various stakeholders and considers various feasible options for multi- stakeholder collaboration in the transition to cleaner energy sources.
